Remains of the Day 2 2012

Mountains of waste are set against the Australian landscape. Inverted images create an orange sky, an ‘apocalyptic’ landscape. Just like an x-ray these photos expose our wastefulness as being a disease.  Tips, recycling centres and landfills are the aftermath of our consumer culture. Products are dumped – the remains of our lifestyle, the aftermath of our pleasure. These places lay on the edge of cities, neither seen nor sought out, yet we are responsible for them through the products we consume and discard. They are alien, disturbing and overwhelming.
