NEW EXHIBITION IN TOOWOOMBA

My latest exhibition ‘FLIGHT PATTERNS’ opens at MARS GALLERY, theGRID at Toowoomba, Queensland next Friday.

Yes its black and white photographs of bird’s poo!

It’s not a subject most people think of as aesthetically pleasing but the random patterns remind me of a Jackson Pollock painting. I was fascinated by the delicate patterns, creamy white textures and shapes when I was walking around Venice a few years ago.

I’ve been shooting bird’s poo all over Sydney this year and the 21 images on show capture the delicate patterns that bird droppings make on our pavements. They become a landscape overlaid onto another landscape – the brick pavers, concrete, granite slabs, and wooden boards that we walk on each day.

These works explore the idea that beauty is all around us and in places that we least expect it.

INCINERATOR ART SPACE OPENING

Michael Fitzgerald, editor of Photofile magazine and Art Monthly opened my exhibition 'Remains of the Day 'on Thursday night. It was great to have so many people there.

Fitzgerald says: "Cresciani is staking a claim for his own sharply emerging photographic identity."

PARRAMATTA ROAD HERITAGE STREETSCAPE

WestConnex, urban change ...

For the last 12 months I have been documenting the buildings on the Leichhardt Local Government Area side of Parramatta Road for Leichhardt Council.

"Emilio Cresciani's photo essay preserves a unique moment in the history of this major artery and contributes to the social history and photographic archive of Sydney. It continues the legacy of documentation of key times and periods in Sydney's growth and the global practice of street documentation."

The images are now on Council's website http://www.leichhardt.nsw.gov.au/Library/Local-History/Parramatta-Road-Streetcape/Parramatta-Road-Streetscape
